Fix My Compressor
Buying, using and fixing your air compressor

I have 2 identical Mastercraft air compressors which I believe were manufactured by Campbell Hausfeld. One seized up and has a broken air valve in the head. I kept it for parts for the second one which works great. My son dropped it and broke the oil filler plug off at the threads. I swapped the end covers with the filler and site glass. The issue I have is that now it leaks from the cover gasket. I tried the gaskets from both compressors but same result. They leak under load. I’m having trouble finding a replacement. Can anyone tell me if I can use a gasket maker to help seal it?
Worthwhile trying, Dan. You may have a big cleanup of the residue if it doesn’t work, but I can’t see how it would cause a problem. The sump is not supposed to be pressurized, so it should be a static seal that you are emulating.
That’s what I was thinking. A lot cheaper than buying a new one.
